Got Aches and Pains?

Fix your pain now (and later)

Got aches and pains?

Pain comes in all forms; acute, chronic, dull, sharp, burning and so on. It can affect any part of the body and be caused by a number of different factors. The important part of treating pain is finding out the root cause.

The Root and Branch

When the cause of the pain is obvious (i.e.rolled an ankle, or lifted something too heavy), it can be easier to understand and accept. Then there are times, where there is no accident or injury and the pain is a complete mystery. In these cases, we need to take the time to identify the source of pain. When the pain has resolved, we need to maintain the good state by changing habits, introducing better mobility and strength. This is a central concept in Traditional Chinese Medicine; treating both the branch (symptoms) and the root (cause of those symptoms).

The Rehab Process

Rehabilitation is the act of restoring something to its original state. In the case of musculoskeletal injury, rehabilitation is the process where the body is returned its normal functioning. Though the process varies, generally there are different states to rehabilitation.

As you can see above, we can distinguish between different stages of rehabilitation. During each stage, we have different goals and modalities to address the specific state the body is in.

Acupuncture is a very effective treatment modality for the acute phase, particularly because it has the ability to address inflammation. Further, acupuncture has been shown to improve circulation, relax the muscles, and reduce pain.

After the acute phase, acupuncture excels in maintaining the body and improving the rate of progress during the rest of the rehabilitation.

In order to provide patients with better care during the restoration and refinement phase, I have sought out the most fundamentally sound and effective modalities to complement my current care. Hence, I am happy to provide Functional Range release therapy and Functional Range Conditioning as part of my treatment toolkit.
